Trying therapy for the first time takes courage. It can also be hard if you have tried therapy in the past and didn’t have a good experience. People are different, so not every therapist or type of therapy will fit the best for every person. You will know what is best for you and I will always respect your right to choose that.
Before meeting in person, I encourage you to take a look at my intro video and/or contact me to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. This is a chance for you to ask more questions and let me know what you are looking for. If it seems we are a good fit, the next step will be to schedule an intake session.
In the first intake session, we will go over paperwork and make sure we are on the same page with our expectations of each other. I will listen to you and get a sense for what you are looking for in terms of therapy, and I will ask a lot of important questions to help me better understand how we can best work together. We will also talk about your goals for treatment and discuss a plan to help you get where you want to go.
If we both feel comfortable moving forward, we’ll schedule regular times to meet.
As we go along, I will give you honest feedback and do a lot of listening to get to know you for the time it takes to build a trusting relationship. I will also give you exercises, tools, and practice building new skills to help you make the changes you are looking for in your life.
I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). My training has been focused on anxiety, stress, and trauma. It is meant to help you live life more fully and in the way you really want to.
When your goals are met and you are ready to proceed with life on your own using the tools, training, and insight developed along the way, we will make a plan for terminating therapy. Saying goodbye and letting go is difficult, but doing it in therapy can be an opportunity to experience it in a healthy and positive way. It can be a celebration for how far you’ve come and all the strength you carry with you wherever you go.
